Terpene Calculator: How Much Terpene to Add

Enter how much oil you are working with and the terpene percentage you want, and this calculator shows how many grams and mL of terpenes to add. Most vape cartridge formulas use 4 to 8% cannabis derived terpenes by weight, and a new formula usually starts around 2 to 3%.

Grams to mL uses about 0.90 g per mL (our terpenes have a relative density of 0.850 to 0.950 at 20 °C), so mL figures are approximate. Weigh when you can. These are starting points, not rules: mix a small test batch and adjust by aroma and hardware.

How the calculator works

It solves for the terpene weight that makes up your target share of the finished mix: terpenes = oil × percentage ÷ (100 − percentage). At 6% with 10 g of distillate, that is about 0.64 g of terpenes, or roughly 0.7 mL.

Starting ranges by hardware

  • Ceramic cartridges: often 8 to 12%.
  • Cotton wick cartridges: around 5 to 8%, because cotton can over saturate and leak at higher loads.
  • Disposables: commonly 5 to 10%, depending on the coil and airflow.
  • New formulas: start around 2 to 3% and work up.

Frequently asked questions

How much terpene do I add to 1 gram of distillate?

At 5%, about 0.05 g of terpenes per gram of distillate; at 8%, about 0.09 g. Most vape cartridge formulas land between 4 and 8% by weight.

How many mL of terpenes are in a gram?

Our terpenes have a relative density of 0.850 to 0.950 at 20 °C, so 1 g is roughly 1.05 to 1.18 mL. The calculator uses about 0.90 g per mL.

How much oil does a 3 mL bottle of terpenes cover?

At 5%, a 3 mL bottle covers about 51 g of oil; at 8%, about 31 g. Use the calculator for your exact ratio.
