Terp Spray: How to Make Terpene Spray for Weed

Terp spray (short for terpene spray) is a strain terpene profile diluted in food grade ethanol and misted onto dried flower to add aroma and flavor. To make your own terpene spray for weed, pour one 3 mL bottle of Lágrimas del Sol cannabis derived terpenes into a 1 oz glass spray bottle and top it up with food grade ethanol. You get about 30 mL of real cannabis terp spray, enough for roughly 10 ounces of flower, for less than most store bought botanical sprays.
What to buy for your terp spray
- One strain: any 3 mL profile from our terpenes for terp spray collection, from $51 for Cured or $57 for Live. One bottle makes about 30 mL of terp spray.
- Three strains: the Discovery Trio, any 3 profiles in 3 mL for $139 (they cost $153 to $171 separately). Make three sprays and find your favorite.
- Fruity sprays: start with our fruity terpene profiles, like Strawberry Guava, Starburst and Guava Runtz.

What is terp spray?
Terp spray, terpene spray and terps spray all mean the same thing: a strain terpene profile diluted in a carrier and misted onto dried flower to add or restore aroma that fades during drying, curing and storage. Most sprays you can buy are made with botanical terpenes, rebuilt from plants like citrus, pine and lavender. Making your own with Lágrimas del Sol gives you a spray made from the cannabis plant itself. See cannabis derived vs botanical terpenes for the difference.
Many people search for it as weed flavouring (or weed flavoring), and that is what a terp spray does: it adds aroma and flavor to flower. Lágrimas del Sol profiles are terpenes only, with no added cannabinoids.
What you need
- Terpenes: one 3 mL bottle of any Lágrimas del Sol profile, Live or Cured.
- Spray bottle: a 1 oz (30 mL) amber glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer, for example the Vivaplex 1 oz amber glass fine mist bottles, 12 pack, on Amazon. Glass, not plastic, because terpenes and alcohol can break down plastic.
- Food grade ethanol: 190 or 200 proof, labeled USP or FCC, and not denatured. Two options on Amazon: USAlab 190 proof ethanol USP and Lab Alley 190 proof ethanol USP/FCC food grade. Both require you to be 21 or older.
Never use: isopropyl or rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, or alcohol labeled SDA 3A, SDA 40B or perfumer's alcohol. These are not food grade.
How to make terpene spray: step by step
- Pour the full 3 mL bottle of terpenes into the empty 1 oz spray bottle. Terpenes are thick, so tap the bottle to get the last drops out.
- Top the bottle up with food grade ethanol to the shoulder, about 27 mL. That makes a mix of roughly 10% terpenes.
- Cap it, shake for 10 seconds, and label it with the profile name and date.
- Store it cool and dark, and shake before each use.
How to use terp spray on weed
- Spread the flower on a clean tray. For pre rolls, spray the flower before you roll it; spraying finished pre rolls evaporates fast.
- Hold the bottle 6 to 8 inches away and mist lightly and evenly. Start with about one spray per gram, which adds roughly 1% terpenes by weight.
- Let the alcohol evaporate completely in open air, about 15 to 30 minutes, until the flower is dry to the touch.
- Seal it in an airtight glass jar for 24 to 48 hours so the aroma settles in evenly.
- Go light. You can always add more next time, but too much can overpower the flower's own aroma and leave it damp.
Ethanol is flammable. Mix and spray away from any flame or heat, and let it evaporate fully before the flower is used.
How much does homemade terp spray cost?
| Option | Cost | Cost per ounce of flower |
|---|---|---|
| Store bought botanical spray | about $17 or more per 5 mL bottle | about $7 or more (their suggested 2 mL of spray per ounce) |
| Homemade with Lágrimas del Sol Cured, 3 mL bottle | $51 terpenes, plus about $2 for ethanol and the bottle, makes about 30 mL of spray (enough for about 10 ounces) | about $5 (about 3 mL of spray, roughly 28 sprays, per ounce) |
| Homemade with Lágrimas del Sol Cured, 25 mL bottle | $300 terpenes, makes about 250 mL of spray (enough for about 80 ounces) | under $4 (same 3 mL of spray per ounce) |
How we got the homemade numbers: one spray is about 0.1 mL, and one spray per gram is about 28 sprays (about 3 mL of spray) per ounce of flower, so a 30 mL bottle covers about 10 ounces. Prices from our online store and typical retail listings in October 2026. Your cost per ounce depends on how heavily you spray. And the homemade version is real cannabis derived terpenes, not a botanical blend.

Live or Cured for a spray?
Live profiles, captured from fresh, flash frozen flower, give the brightest top notes. Cured profiles, captured from dried, cured flower, give a rounder aroma that sits naturally on cured buds. Read Live vs Cured terpenes to choose, or try both in the Discovery Trio.
Not for direct consumption. Lágrimas del Sol terpenes are sold for formulation and manufacturing, not for direct consumption. Always dilute them as shown above and never use them undiluted. Use terpene sprays only where legal and in line with your local rules.

Frequently asked questions
What is terp spray?
Terp spray, or terpene spray, is a strain terpene profile diluted in a carrier, usually food grade ethanol, and misted lightly onto dried flower to add or restore aroma.
How do I make terpene spray at home?
Pour one 3 mL bottle of Lágrimas del Sol terpenes into a 1 oz (30 mL) glass fine mist spray bottle, top it up with food grade ethanol, cap it and shake. That makes about 30 mL of spray at roughly 10% terpenes.
What alcohol should I use for terpene spray?
Use food grade ethanol labeled USP or FCC, 190 or 200 proof, and not denatured. Never use isopropyl or rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, SDA alcohol or perfumer's alcohol.
How much terpene spray do I use per gram?
At a 10% mix, start with about one fine mist spray per gram of flower, which adds roughly 1% terpenes by weight. Let the alcohol evaporate, then jar it and adjust next time.
Is homemade terpene spray cheaper than store bought?
Usually, yes. Popular store bought botanical sprays sell for about $17 or more per 5 mL, roughly $7 or more per ounce of flower at their suggested rate. A homemade 10% spray made with a 3 mL bottle of Lágrimas del Sol Cured works out to about $5 per ounce, and less with larger bottles.
Can I make an OG Kush or Runtz terpene spray?
Yes, by choosing a Lágrimas del Sol profile with a similar aroma. For OG Kush, try Motor Breath or Godsbreath. For Runtz, try Guava Runtz or Bubblegum. A similar aroma is not that strain, and strain names belong to their breeders and owners.
Is terp spray the same as weed flavouring?
Mostly, yes. Weed flavouring usually means a terpene spray that adds aroma and flavor to flower. A terp spray made with Lágrimas del Sol uses cannabis derived terpenes, while most store bought sprays use botanical terpenes.
Where can I buy terpenes for terp spray?
Any 3 mL Lágrimas del Sol profile makes about 30 mL of terp spray, from $51 for Cured or $57 for Live. To try three strains, the Discovery Trio is any 3 profiles in 3 mL for $139. Free US shipping on orders of $150 and up.
